The Boundary Script Book — 40 Printable Scripts for In-Laws & Family
You are not bad at boundaries. You are improvising.
The comment lands. Your heart rate goes up. In the two seconds before you answer you are writing a sentence, checking it for rudeness, imagining the fallout and editing it again — and by the time you have something you are willing to say, the moment has gone and you have said "mm" instead.
Actors rehearse. Doctors have scripts for bad news. You have been walking into the same conversation for nine years and making it up at the door.
This book moves the writing to a quiet Tuesday, so that on the day you only have to say it.
What is inside — 30 pages
- The three-part line — the whole method on one page. Warmth, the line, a door. Six seconds.
- The four rules that make a script hold: warm tone and same words · no new reason · repeat rather than escalate · change the subject yourself.
- The conversation to have with your partner FIRST — including the exact script, and the four things they will say back with a reply for each. This is the part people skip and it is the part that decides whether the rest works.
- Forty actual sentences across eight situations: turning up unannounced · comments on the house and the cooking · advice about the children · money that comes with strings · Christmas and whose house · questions about your body and your plans · being talked over · and when your partner is used as the messenger. Each one has a note on when to use it.
- The ladder, for when a script does not work — five rungs, one at a time.
- How to say it so it lands — slower not louder, finish and stop, keep your face friendly.
- Fill-in pages: your own three sentences, the visit plan, a four-week log and a read-back.
- An honest page on what this will and will not do.
- A page on when it is NOT a boundary problem, with helplines. Read that one even if you read nothing else.

The honest bit
This will not make them like it, and it will not feel comfortable the first three times. It will not fix a partner who will not back you. A boundary is a pattern, and a pattern needs about three repetitions before anybody believes it is real. What it does is make you consistent — and consistency is the only thing in this situation that has ever changed anything.
